Quarterfinal Player of the Week: Thomson’s Jontavis Curry
Thomson entered the fourth quarter of its quarterfinal game against South Atlanta with a 10-point lead, then was torched by four touchdowns. But South Atlanta couldn’t keep the ball away from Jontavis Curry, who ran back two kickoffs for touchdowns.
Thomson scored five touchdowns of its own in the 60-point fourth quarter and won 56-38. Curry, a 5-foot-8, 170-pound senior running back, finished with 359 all-purpose yards – 100 rushing, 67 receiving, 192 returning – and scored five touchdowns to put Thomson in the semifinals for the first time since 2016.
“He just has it; that’s all I can tell you,” Thomson coach Michael Youngblood said. “He’s fast, he’s quick. His acceleration is off the charts. His stopping and going is unbelievable. You have to see it for yourself to understand how fast it is on a football field.”
Curry is GHSF Daily’s state Player of the Week. The award is sponsored by Sports Turf.
