Semifinal Team of the Week: Stockbridge

Benedictine’s Danny Britt knows when he’s been beaten, and the coach gave Stockbridge the credit for ending his team’s 24-game winning streak and two-year reign as Class 4A champion last week in the semifinals.

“That was just a butt whooping,” Britt told the Savannah Morning News. “They just physically handed us tonight. ... They physically brought it to us.”

Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal was on hand Wednesday at Stockbridge High School when the Tigers were presented with GHSF Daily’s state Team of the Week award.

Stockbridge senior Jayden “Duke” Scott, an N.C. State commit that Stockbridge coach Thomas Clark called “the best running back in the state,” rushed for 310 yards in the 45-31 victory.

It sent the Tigers to a championship game for the first time since they started football in 1964 and avenged a 34-14 loss to Benedictine from the 2022 quarterfinals.

Stockbridge is GHSF Daily’s Team of the Week. The award is sponsored by BSN SPORTS and Titan Electric.
