Week 1 Team of the Week: Columbia

Columbia, a Class 2A DeKalb County school, went 8-4 last season and won its first playoff game in 24 years, but the Eagles were never ranked. That’s because they hadn’t scored a signature victory to earn it.

Now, they have. Playing on the road against a Class 7A blue-blood program Friday, Columbia defeated Camden County 13-10. Camden had beaten Columbia 31-0 last season and was pegged by the computer Maxwell Ratings as a 34-point favorite in the rematch in Kingsland.

Columbia, ranked this week for the first time since 1997, is GHSF Daily’s state Team of the Week. The award is sponsored by BSN Sports and Titan Electric.
