Class 6A: Grayson 38, Carrollton 24

Recap: Grayson sacked Carrollton star quarterback Julian Lewis five times, intercepted him twice, forced him to fumble and made his team one-dimensional, holding the No. 1-ranked Trojans to 43 rushing yards. Tyler Atkinson, a five-star junior linebacker, had seven solo tackles, three tackles for losses, two sacks and a pass breakup. Vaughn Mitchom, a senior with only small-college offers, intercepted two passes in the fourth quarter, one at the Grayson 39, the other returned 45 yards to set up Grayson’s clinching touchdown. Elijah Miller rushed for 109 yards and three touchdowns. His 3-yard run broke a 24-24 tie with 1:58 left in the third quarter, ending a nine-play, 80-yard drive, and his 25-yard run provided the final margin with 3:41 left. Lewis, playing his final high school game, was 30-of-42 passing for 333 yards and two touchdowns, but Grayson's swift pass rush prevailed in the end. Anthony Davis, Andre Fuller and Lawrence Brown, all Division I recruits, also had sacks. The victory was sixth-ranked Grayson's 14th straight victory since a one-point season-opening loss to Collins Hill.

History: Grayson won its fourth state title, first since 2020, and improved to 4-0 in championship games. Santavious Bryant, in his second season, became the fourth Grayson coach to win a title after Adam Carter (2020), Jeff Herron (2016) and Mickey Conn (2011). Grayson became the first school to win four state titles in the highest classification this century. Tied with three are Camden County, Lowndes and Parkview. Carrollton fell to 0-4 in finals this century. Julian Lewis, a consensus top-100 national recruit who signed with Colorado this month as a reclassified senior, finished his career with 11,010 passing yards (seventh in state history) and 144 passing touchdowns (fifth all-time) with a 39-4 record as a starter. This was his first two-interception game since his freshman season. Carrollton finished 14-1.
