Georgia Tech hires Fellowship’s McFarlin as high school relations director

Tim McFarlin, who led Roswell and Blessed Trinity to state championships before becoming Fellowship Christian’s football coach in 2021, is jumping into college football as Georgia Tech’s director of high school relations.

McFarlin confirmed the news to the AJC on Thursday evening, saying he would start Monday under coach Brent Key, who got the job permanently Nov. 29 after leading the Yellow Jackets as the interim coach the final eight games. Tech won four of its final eight games under Key.

“I’ve known Coach Key for several years and was excited for him to get the job,” McFarlin said. “He has a vested interest in Tech, and there’s no doubt he’s going to move the program in the right direction. For me, the timing just seemed to be right, and I am excited and grateful for the opportunity.”

McFarlin led Fellowship Christian to consecutive state semifinal appearances in his only two seasons at the Roswell private school.

He won state titles at Blessed Trinity in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and Roswell in 2006, making him one of 15 GHSA coaches to win championships at two schools.

McFarlin has coached a number of major Division I players, including current starting linebackers Steele Chambers of Ohio State and J.D. Bertrand of Notre Dame.

McFarlin was a 16-year assistant at Roswell before succeeding Ray Manus to start his head-coaching career in 1998.
