Herron, McWhorter, Flowers selected for GACA Hall of Fame
Football coaches Jeff Herron, Rich McWhorter and Charles Flowers will join basketball’s Anzy Hardman and Rufus McDuffie in the 2025 GACA Hall of Fame, the GACA announced last week.
Herron, who retired this year, won 309 games and five state titles and is the only GHSA coach to win state championships at three schools (Camden County, Oconee County, Grayson).
McWhorter became Charlton County’s head coach in 1990, after 11 straight non-winning seasons, and immediately went 11-3 and reached the Class A final. He went on to win 288 games and five state titles in 29 seasons there and helped develop one future Pro Football Hall of Famer, Champ Bailey.
The Hall of Fame is recognizing Flowers as a coach for two sports. He led Shaw to a football state championship in 2000 and a baseball state title in 2001. His football record was 161-83.
Induction will be May 31 in Dalton.
