Marietta hires coach from Florida to replace title-winning Morgan

Cameron Duke, who won 85 games in eight seasons at Edgewater in Orlando, Fla., is Marietta’s new football coach, Marietta Schools announced Tuesday afternoon.

“I’m honored to lead this storied program and am committed to fostering excellence both on and off the field,” Duke said in a statement. ”Together, we’ll work to continue the proud legacy of Marietta football.”

Duke’s record over eight seasons at Edgewater was 85-16, according to Marietta. Two of his teams played in state championship games. Edgewater was 10-2 this past season.

Duke told his Edgewater players Tuesday evening, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The newspaper also noted that Duke took his team on a mission trip to Guatemala and to England last season to play NFL Europe. Edgewater won 51-45.

Duke will replace Richard Morgan, who led the Blue Devils for nine seasons and won a Class 7A championship in 2019. Marietta has suffered losing seasons the past three years and finished 2-8 in 2024.

The 2019 championship was Marietta’s first since 1967. It featured AJC all-class player of the year Arik Gilbert and future NFL players B.J. Ojulari and Kimani Vidal.

Duke will meet Marietta families, players and the community on Jan. 22 and start work in February, the school said.
