Skipstone Academy wins GAPPS championship

Matthew Rambeau ran for 84 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries Friday night to lead Skipstone Academy of Griffin to a 21-18 victory over Calvary Christian in the Georgia Association of Private & Parochial Schools championship game.

The Warriors (9-3) avenged a 21-10 loss to Calvary Christian in a Nov. 3 regular-season game that decided the Region 2 title.

It was the first state title for Skipstone Academy, which had lost in the championship game in 2022 (16-9 vs. Cherokee Christian) and 2019 (43-0 vs. Community Christian).

Ethan Miller ran for 126 yards on 21 carries and was 4-of-9 passing for 71 yards, including a 3-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Lam that gave the Warriors a 21-7 lead. Lam led the team with six tackles, 14 assists and a sack.

Calvary Christian of Columbus, which won a state title in 2020, finished the season 7-5. Luke Zevac passed for 209 yards and De’andre Heard rushed for 138 in the loss.
