Georgia Elite Classic picks head coaches for All-Star Games
Former Georgia high school football players and the sons of one current head coach and a former one will lead the two senior teams in this year’s Georgia Elite Classic on Dec. 26-28 at McEachern High School.
Tyler Queen, the quarterback for his father Shane at North Cobb and now an assistant coach for the Warriors, has been named head coach for one of the senior teams. Major Carlberg, son of former Centennial coach Jeff Carlberg and now North Gwinnett linebackers coach, will handle the other senior squad. Carlberg was a linebacker for the North Gwinnett team that won a state championship in 2017, while Queen was one of the top quarterbacks in the state during his senior year in 2014 and played at Auburn and West Georgia.
The Freshman vs. Sophomore All-Star Game will feature Allatoona defensive coordinator Dan Mullins, who will be working with the ninth graders, against Thomasville offensive coordinator Israel Troupe and the 10th graders. The two 11th-grade coaches are Berkmar head coach Andrico Hines and Grayson defensive coordinator Greg Carswell. The eighth-grade coaches are Blessed Trinity receivers coach Gordon Dudley and East Paulding receivers coach Trevor Thomas, while the seventh-grade head coaches are former Milton state championship head coach Adam Clack and Kyle Whitaker of Walton, who coached the seventh-grade team this season. Whitaker will be joined by Monroe Area defensive backs coach Jarrod Rickman, making for a strong duo of co-head coaches.
The four head coaches for the two Flag Football All-Star Games will be announced next week.
