Hall of Fame Game to feature Decatur, Woodward Academy

The Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame will induct 30 players in its third class on Saturday, Oct. 26, and the inductees will gather the night before at Decatur High School for its game with Woodward Academy.

The game will be televised by the Peachtree Sports Network as part of the Drive For The GHSA State Title, with kickoff set for 8 p.m.

One of the inductees is Decatur great Frank Broyles, who was one of the top high school players in the state when he played for the Bulldogs and graduated in 1941. Broyles went on to become the starting quarterback at Georgia Tech and was drafted in the third round by the Chicago Bears but decided to go into coaching, where he made a name for himself as the head coach at Arkansas and later as the school's athletic director. He was at Arkansas from 1958-2007 and later served as the primary commentator for ABC Sports and its coverage of college football with play-by-play man Keith Jackson.

Broyles, who passed away in 2017 at the age of 92, was known at Arkansas for mentoring some of the greatest college and NFL head coaches, including Johnny Majors, Barry Switzer, Joe Gibbs, Hayden Fry and Jimmy Johnson.
