What are the most common football injuries, and how can coaches help prevent them?

The most common injuries suffered by these young football athletes are contusions, ligament sprains or tears, and fractures.

While athletes face a variety of risk factors, many of these injuries can come from improper warming up, overuse, and improper equipment or mechanics. So, it’s imperative that coaches help ensure athletes have:

  • Proper and adequate equipment.

  • Safe field conditions.

  • Instruction on tackling safely.

  • Access to athletic trainers or medical professionals.

Children’s Orthopedics and Sports Medicine team is here to help educate coaches and athletes about the wide range of injuries players may face, and how to help prevent them.
