Round 1 Team of the Week: Sequoyah

Sequoyah is proud of its 38-28 victory over No. 6 Gainesville in the Class 5A first round. Just don’t call it an upset.

“For our kids, they pretty much expected it, to be honest,” Sequoyah coach James Teter said. “Some people feel like we won in an upset, but our players felt like we had played well all year and that our region was tough enough. Everything we’ve done all year set us up for this game.”

Head coach James Teter and the Sequoyah seniors are joined by George Jones of BSN Sports for the presentation of the GHSF Daily Team of the Week award after the Chiefs’ first-round playoff victory over Gainesville.

Sequoyah, now 10-1, relied on its offensive line to control the game, rushing for 312 yards and forcing four turnovers. Will Rajecki had 32 carries for 208 yards and four touchdowns.

The victory gave Sequoyah 10 wins for the first time since 2018, also the last time the Chiefs made the quarterfinals. They can repeat that finish with a victory this week at Woodward Academy.

Sequoyah is GHSF Daily’s Team of the Week. The award is sponsored by BSN Sports and Georgia Construction Careers.
