Round 2 Team of the Week: Sprayberry
Sprayberry’s historic season collected more mementos last week in a 35-7 victory over Newnan.
Earlier this month, Sprayberry clinched its first region title in 16 seasons with a victory over Woodstock that clinched Region 6.
Head coach Brett Vavra and members of the Sprayberry football team were joined by Robbie May of BSN Sports for the presentation of the GHSF Daily Team of the Week award after their 35-7 second-round victory over Newnan.
On Friday, the Yellow Jackets won their 11th game, setting a record for a school that opened in the 1950s. This week, the Yellow Jackets will play in the state quarterfinals for the first time since 1982 when they travel to Lee County in Class 5A.
Sprayberry’s coach, Brett Vavra, was a Sprayberry linebacker in the late 1990s.
“Sprayberry is one of the older schools in east Cobb, and there’s really a sense of pride in our community,” Vavra said. “People have been reaching out to us, sharing the love and telling us congratulations. It’s been a good response.”
Sprayberry is GHSF Daily’s Team of the Week. The award is sponsored by BSN Sports and Georgia Construction Careers.
