Semifinal Team of the Week: Northeast

Northeast running back Nick Woodford didn’t play in Northeast’s opening game, a 40-21 loss to Peach County that helped put the Raiders out of the rankings for a while.

Two weeks later, Woodford rushed for 218 yards and four touchdowns against Washington County, a sign that the former 2,000-yard rusher was strong again after a knee injury ruined his junior season.

Northeast head coach Jeremy Wiggins and the team’s seniors were joined by Willis Rainey of BSN Sports for the presentation of GHSF Daily’s Team of the Week award after their 46-14 victory over Fitzgerald.

“People are sleeping on us,” Northeast coach Jeremy Wiggins warned at the time.

They’re not sleeping now.

Northeast just became the first Macon team to reach a state championship game in 49 years with a 46-14 victory over Fitzgerald in the semifinals. Woodford, a 2,000-yard rusher again, rushed for 326 yards.

Northeast is GHSF Daily’s Team of the Week. The award is sponsored by BSN Sports and Georgia Construction Careers.
