Week 12 Player of the Week: Savannah Christian’s Elijah Griffin

There aren’t many high school goals left unchecked for Savannah Christian defensive tackle Elijah Griffin, the state’s consensus No. 1 prospect who committed to Georgia last month.

A region title was one of them. Savannah Christian’s game last week against Toombs County would decide the Region 3-A Division I champion. Both teams were ranked No. 1.

“He was such a great leader last week,” Savannah Christian coach Baker Woodward said. “He led by example by watching the most film, giving the most effort in practice and also being a vocal leader. He worked hard for this, and for the last three years he was a region runner-up, and the last time he was part of a region championship he was the ball boy [as an eighth-grader in 2020]. Biggest ball boy in the history of Raider football.”

Griffin, all grown up at 6 feet, 5 inches and 285 pounds, had a season-high five tackles for losses in the 14-7 victory. That gave him 93 tackles for losses in his career.

“His effort Friday night was unmatched,” Woodward said. “He was flying around, diving, just plain wreaking havoc on Toombs County's offense.”

Griffin is GHSF Daily’s Player of the Week. The award is sponsored by Sports Turf.
