Week 9 Team of the Week: Elbert County

Elbert County and Rabun County are just 75 miles apart in northeast Georgia, but they had never played each other in football until 2016.

The timing could not have been worse for Elbert. Rabun County was three years into what would become a 50-game winning streak in region play, and the dynasty would cost Elbert County at least four region titles.

Elbert County head coach Shannon Jarvis (right) and several of his players were presented with GHSF Daily’s state Team of the Week award after their 21-9 victory over Rabun County in a Region 8-A Division I game last week.

But it’s over now. Elbert ended the state’s longest winning streak of its kind – and an 0-7 run against Rabun – with a 21-9 road victory last week. Elbert will play at home Friday against Commerce in a game likely to decide the Region 8-A Division I title.

Elbert County is GHSF Daily’s Team of the Week. The award is sponsored by BSN Sports and Titan Electric.
