Class A Division II: Bowdon 34, Brooks County 14
Recap: The game, closer than the score suggested, turned in Bowdon’s favor in the final two minutes of the first half when Brooks County suffered a poor snap to its punter from its backup center. Bowdon, trailing 14-7, recovered on the Brooks County 13-yard line and scored in five plays. Though the extra point was missed, leaving Brooks County ahead 14-13, Bowdon would score the game’s final 27 points. Brooks County had scoreless drives that ended at the Bowdon 29-, 26-, 35-, 13- and 19-yard lines and trailed only 327-324 in total yards until Josh Davis’s 66-yard run with 1:47 left punctuated the victory. Davis and Nate Bhony, each 1,000-yard rushers in the regular season, went over 100 yards rushing. Bowdon’s Dylan McGrinn had nine solo tackles and forced a critical second-half fumble on Brooks’ deepest non-scoring drive.
History: Bowdon became 14th team in state history to win a third straight championship, first since Buford in 2019-21. Rich Fendley became the 11th coach to win three straight titles. Brooks County fell short of its first state title since 2021 in the first season under coach Josh McFather.
