Dyer to replace Jarvis as Elbert County coach

Shannon Jarvis is stepping down as Elbert County’s coach to become the school system’s assistant superintendent, and offensive coordinator and former Archer head coach Andy Dyer will take his place. The Elbert County school board approved the moves Tuesday afternoon.

“I told the players they just got an upgrade at the coaching position,” Jarvis told GHSF Daily. “We’re fortunate that he decided to step in. I had another opportunity, and this works out well for us.”

Dyer was Archer’s coach from 2009, when the Gwinnett County school opened, through 2021 and led the Tigers to four region titles, five 10-win seasons and a 2014 state runner-up finish in the highest classification. He joined Jarvis’s Elbert County staff in 2022. Dyer’s head coaching record is 97-52.

Jarvis and Dyer met as rival coaches in Gwinnett, as Jarvis started Mill Creek’s program in 2004. Jarvis came home to his alma mater Elbert County in 2020 and led the Blue Devils to Class A Division II quarterfinal finishes the past two seasons. Jarvis’s career record is 137-90.
