Jaybo Shaw returns to Georgia, lands at Dawson County

Jaybo Shaw, who won three region titles with Gunner Stockton as his quarterback at Rabun County, is the new head coach at Dawson County.

The Dawson County school board approved the hire late Tuesday.

Shaw is a former Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern quarterback who got into coaching under his father, Lee Shaw, at Rabun County and was head coach there from 2019 to 2021. His three-season record for the northeast Georgia school was 35-5. Stockton was a three-time first-team all-state player under Shaw.

Shaw became Wayne County’s coach in 2022 and led a team that had just gone 0-9 to a 10-3 finish. Wayne County was 7-4 in Shaw’s second season. Shaw spent this past season at Greenville, S.C. His team was 2-9.

At Dawson County, Shaw will replace Sid Maxwell, who retired after 10 seasons at the north Georgia school. Dawson County won two region titles under Maxwell and was 4-6 this season.
