Evans coach out amid investigation of inappropriate relationship

The football coach at Evans High School is no longer employed by the school district, according to a statement issued Thursday that cited an “ongoing investigation” previously reported by the district.

“Barrett Davis, a teacher and coach at Evans High School, is no longer employed by the Columbia County School District,” the statement reads. “Please know that in any situation concerning allegations of inappropriate behavior by a staff member, not only will we investigate fully, we will also use every resource available to pursue prosecution in order to keep inappropriate behavior out of classrooms and schools.”

The district sent a previous letter to parents Monday informing them of the investigation without naming Davis at the time.

“Safety of students and staff is a top priority, and the CCSD does not condone nor does it tolerate inappropriate relationships,” the email read.

Davis was a Georgia head coach the past seven seasons, four at Evans and three at Southeast Bulloch, where he won a 2020 region title.

Davis is a Columbia County native and graduate of Harlem High. He coached as an assistant for four seasons at another county school, Lakeside, and was on Burke County’s staff for a 2011 Class 3A championship.
