Pope, Chestatee head coaches won’t return in 2023

Two football coaches have announced that they won't return to their teams next season.

Tab Griffin told GHSF Daily on Sunday that Pope won't be renewing his contract but is allowing him to finish the season. Pope is 1-8 overall, 1-4 in Region 7-6A, and could make the playoffs with a victory Friday at Sprayberry (3-6, 2-3). Griffin has guided Pope, his alma mater and a Cobb County school, to the playoffs in three of his six seasons.

At Chestatee, Shaun Conley announced his retirement just before last week’s game against East Forsyth. Chestatee, a Hall County school, won 32-28 and closes the season Friday against Walnut Grove. Conley has been Chestatee’s coach since 2016.
