Three Chattooga players die in single-vehicle wreck

Three members of Chattooga’s football team were among four who died in a single-vehicle wreck shortly after midnight Sunday morning in Chattooga County, the Chattanooga Times Free Press and other media reported.

One of the victims is sophomore Xaviar Gray, NewsChannel 9 in Chattanooga confirmed. The names of the others have not been released. A fourth passenger was killed.

Chattooga’s Facebook page posted photos of the players in their football uniforms Sunday without naming them. “Heartbroken is the only word that comes to mind as we have lost 3 of our own,” it said.

Chattooga County Schools superintendent Jared Hosmer confirmed the deaths of the players in a statement. “Please be in prayer for the families of all that have been affected by this terrible tragedy,” Hosmer wrote.

Chattooga completed its season Friday with a 33-12 victory over Coosa and finished 2-8.
