A head injury without a hit? It can happen

As football fans, players, coaches, trainers and parents, we’ve all seen our fair share of hard hits on the field. Sometimes those hits involve a blow to the head, causing a concussion. But believe it or not, an athlete can sustain a concussion without even taking a hit to the helmet!

Whiplash – when a person’s head is jerked forward and backward quickly – is a violent motion that causes the brain to collide with the inside of the skull. It can happen during even a routine tackle.

Signs of a whiplash injury include neck pain and may be accompanied by headache, sleep issues and dizziness or blurred vision. It also can result in attention and memory issues, ringing in the ears, fatigue and irritability.

If your student-athlete has been experiencing symptoms for more than three months after whiplash or a concussion, Aviv Clinics can help. Clinical research demonstrates that the Aviv Medical Program can heal damaged brain tissue, even years after a head injury. Complete our online form or call 888-393-2848 for a free physician consultation.
