Athens Academy’s Keyon Standifer, Cherokee’s Tanner Savasir, Elbert County’s Jayvyn Hickman, Houston County’s Isaiah Mitchell and Warner Robins’ Rasean Dinkins put up big numbers in their teams’ victories.
How the new top-10 teams fared in Week 3
North Gwinnett’s victory at Colquitt County has the Bulldogs ranked No. 4 in Class 6A this week ahead of a showdown with No. 5 Mill Creek. North Gwinnett defeated the Packers 14-3 while nearly ending two remarkable Colquitt County streaks. Colquitt hasn’t been shut out since 2008 nor been ranked outside the top 10 since 2016. Colquitt is ranked No. 10 this week.

Playoff projections for 3A through A-I based on new GHSA ranking formula
The GHSA is using a ranking formula to help select and seed playoff teams for classes 3A, 2A and A Division I this season. Below are how those seeds and selections will play out, according to the computer Maxwell Ratings. The seedings below include each team’s projected final PSRF and region finish in 10 weeks.

Cook’s M.J. Tippins, Eastside’s Jayden Barr, Milton’s Ethan Barbour and Pope’s John Stuetzer put up big numbers on offense in Week 2 victories. On defense, Deuce Geralds created havoc again as Collins Hill defeated a top-10 opponent for the second consecutive week.
How the new top-10 teams fared in Week 2
Carrollton and Savannah Christian are new No. 1 teams in the high school football rankings, replacing Buford and Prince Avenue. Buford, the previous No. 1 in Class 6A, fell a notch despite beating Benedictine 29-28 with last-minute heroics. Benedictine is the No. 4 team in Class 4A. Buford lost its opener to Class 5A’s No. 1 team, Milton, 13-10.
Carr, Brown, Bryan put up biggest yardage numbers in Week 1

A week after knocking off Buford, Class 5A No. 1 Milton will travel to Florida to face American Heritage in a matchup of teams ranked in the top 20 nationally. The Week 2 schedule also includes two high-profile games between private schools - Blessed Trinity at Holy Innocents' and Hebron Christian at Fellowship Christian.

Four No. 1-ranked teams lost in Week 1 of the 2024 season, but two of the team - Class 6A Buford and Class A Division II Bowdon - held on to the top spots. New at No. 1 are Marist, which replaced Benedictine at the top of 4A, and Sandy Creek, which moved to the top of 3A after a loss by Jefferson.

Douglass, Kell win opening games of 2024
Douglass and Kell opened the 2024 football season with victories Wednesday in the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic at Kell High. Douglass, ranked No. 8 in Class 3A, beat Class 3A’s No. 3 team, LaGrange, 18-3. Kell beat North Atlanta 29-15 in the nightcap.

Rome cancels opener against Creekside after bus crash
Rome’s football team pulled out of this week’s opening game with Creekside because of Thursday night’s bus crash that sent 15 players to the emergency room, Rome coach John Reid announced Monday morning. Rome, ranked No. 7 in Class 5A, was to play Creekside at home Friday night.
Preseason rankings: Four reigning champions start season at No. 1
Reigning state champions Milton, Pierce County, Prince Avenue Christian and Bowdon are ranked No. 1 to start a football season that should be more unpredictable because of reclassification. Also No. 1 are Buford, Benedictine, Jefferson and Toombs County.
Rome coach Reid says team ‘doing fine’ after rollover bus crash
Rome’s football team has no plans to alter its season opener Aug. 16 against Creekside despite a traumatic rollover bus crash Thursday evening that sent up to 15 students and adults to the hospital. “The team is doing fine,” Rome coach John Reid said Friday morning.
Preseason all-state: McGatha, Anderson take top spots on Class 2A team
